Reply with quote | #2 | With all due respect to the aforementioned ensembles. I would prefer to See Passion or Conjunto Fear from Tucson. As a nice change from the usual conjuntos that play at Post 41.

Everyone has different opinions on bands. I just wanted to know if people would come out on Christmas Night to support our local bands. __________________ jopost41 |

Good topic I would say, and with a lot of lateral directions to go and choose from. Well, the name of the fest is good, nice. but it's the Christmas Holidays and most people are doing other things and visiting relatives, you know what I mean.
Here at home we have some friends over for dinner during Christmas week, our oldest daughter comes to visit from California too, and we usually don't go out that much, but again, that's us here ... one of our TAB members said it well, it's family time. My answer to James Ormsby would be a 'no'.
As I said, I do like the idea, but not during the last week of December, and I agree with one TAB'er suggesting the spring/fall seasons. Good idea.
Being a member of the ALP41 myself, I have suggested to James and other commanders about bringing other groups, conjuntos, and bands from the Tucson area, including DJs.
Tucson does offer a large tejano/group database for us to use and bring to the Legion! ... and elsewhere here in the valley. Using this wide choice of variety music, talent, musicianship, and artistry from our friends in Tucson could be a huge asset to us - in turn of course, Tucson could do the same with us by hiring our local bands to perform in that city.
A mutual music business approach and collaboration between both cities would truly enhance the Arizona entertainment market as a whole - and our local fans would get a chance to listen to more Arizona DJs, groups, conjuntos, and bands.
Bottomline?, and I am not attacking James directly or insinuating any discrepancies past and present, or to the Legion either! ... but quiet honestly, I'm not sure who is to blame or who has the upper hand in initiating this plan into a more broader music arena and concept for the sake of all us.
I always try to do one thing here in Arizona and for our metro valley, and that is to work with promoters to bring good tejano music to our local fans and supporters ... secondly, to suggest ideas such as using the talented groups from Tucson to play here in our venues. Bringing variety to the fans along with established groups we use here already can be both advantageous and profitable!
In Phoenix, the showcase and ticket can be something like PASSION and AMBICION, XS BAND with Se Salen, FLIPside with AZ Rhythm, UNSTOPPABLE with Conjunto FEAR, FEAR and AMBICION, REALITY BAND with iMAS, MONICA ASTRO with Se Salen or another Tucson group ... just quick examples here for now. In Tucson it could be the same ticket and entertainment package, or of course change them as needed, but again, one group from here and one from Tucson; you get the picture.
Why not meet half way in Casa Grande, rent a nice place out there if possible, or the county fairgrounds and do something BIG out there with four groups! ... one band/one conjunto from Tucson! ... one band/conjunto from PHX! ... and complete with food stands all over to eat and eat, DJs too, the whole entertainment enchilada and ball of wax as they say! ... on a Saturday from 12:00 noon till 12:00 midnight!
Would Arizona tejanos go to this event?!, on a heartbeat!

i am all for that type of a concert or event. you could even make the battle of Tejano Groups or Conjuntos in Arizona. and make a weekend event two days of the hottest Tejano Bands in Arizona and maybe bring one named group out of Texas to finish of the nights. you talk about and event, that would most definitely draw you a crowd. like I mention before i would volunteer to help put it together. |

Reply with quote | #10 | Camarillo!, that's the spirit! I added your number to my cell and will call you sometime this week.
You know, one thing about promoters and their staff is that we have a 'general tendency' if I can use that word on a Blue Monday, a tendency to forget "the volunteers and just local fans that want to help out with tejano events" ... and some of them are more than serious about it but we never get them on board to help out.
They're actually an asset because they can do a lot for the event, and you probably know more about this than me. MaryLu who lives in Guadalupe and also Leticia, wife of Mike Loza here in PHX, are excellent examples of what they can do on just about any tejano dance or event. They volunteer and always help out if asked, or they just like to get their hands in there and help out.
I guess what I'm saying is the more involvement with local volunteers and the promotional music group, the better it is overall. A lot takes place on any tejano event and sometimes promoters need some additional help.
Will talk to you real soon Camarillo. __________________ "Music is a powerful way of telling people what you're about." |
