Tejano Music Award History Books

Arizona will go in the Tejano Music Awards history books as the Texas Talent of Musicians Association comes to Arizona to present the prestigious award to Arizona's Own Tejano Music Recording Artist Monica Castro. For the first time in 29 years the TMA will leave Texas and find a home in Glendale Arizona. Monica who averages 50 performaces a year, more than most Up and Coming Female Artist is able to promote Tejano Music and her music in this region with the help and dedicated musicians of Robert Castro, Joe Sanchez, Rafael Castro, Adan Rodriguez, Jonathan Molina, and the newest member Art Aguirre. It is truely an honor to win an award voted by the fans of Tejano Music. It is the peoples vote that the Tejano Music Award represents. The set date for the award ceremony will be Janurary 16. 2010. Other performance will be by Fama and one other band not determined yet. The TTMA Vice President Frank Salazar will be making the trip for this historic event. A sure once in a life time event in the Valley you don't want to miss.

Wow!, I do hope some local promoters will sign a contract with "Marky Lee" who will be passing through Arizona real soon. Some months ago I talked to him and he was saying that he really wants to come and play here! DJ Angel got me his number at the time, and then a few weeks after this conversation, Marky sent me his new CD! ... I was very impressed with it, so, hopefully somebody can sign him up for all our tejano fans here.

Good to see Martin Sanchez hiring our local groups and bands!, and getting involve with tejano music one more time! Thumbs up Martin!

Our local music scene seems to be booming and on first gear!, and top notch entertainment everywhere you go these days! ... this has always surprised me when compared to my previous home state of California! I talk to my brother and other musicians on and off and they tell me that, "music is very slow in San Jose!" Here?, well, it's a totally different story. Now, anyone can go and dance from Chandler to Avondale and other cities in between and enjoy the weekend venues - and major dances as well. That is simply great!

A lot of places to go for New Years Eve too, and still weeks away, but a good idea to plan ahead to bring in 2010!

I have also canceled my Texas trip until January of 2010 due to the holidays coming up; can't miss families getting together, the tamales and turkey, and Christmas presents also!

Sorry for the minor interruption yesterday; I just forgot my domain name was due on the 17th of NOV, and today I just paid the TAB bill as well. Must of had a "senior moment" in space-time and forgot things! Oh oh!

... and, thanks to all of you TAB visitors and members! The TAB stats are still impressive with about 45,000 visitors per month and at normal peaks it averages about 1400 to 1500 visitors per day! - and staying there too! ... I wanted to go and see Sunny Sauceda coming up real soon and around the bend, DEC the 11th ... see the flyer. Mike and Leticia Loza are also selling tickets; give them a call and pronto fella. Anyway, I was asking John about Sunny some weeks ago and I was surprised how much he knows about accordion artists, well, just hearing him talk convinced me to go and hear this Grammy winner.

Not sure if some of you had the opportunity to hear the new group from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, "CRISOL" ... I played their MP3 last weekend and also on MON ... their info has now been moved to the PROMOTIONS link at my site; Karlos Landin Jr. is the lead singer.

I come and go with Facebook and Twitter, so, need a little more time to learn the social media of things, otherwise it's not a bad idea to twit about La Onda. Interesting.

Can anybody out there in Zona Land tell me something about LaRiZa?! She's been performing here locally and almost week after week in Chandler I believe. George Lopez, Latino Poster Boy

Are All Latinos Happy that George Lopez is the New Latino Poster Boy?

Are all Latinos happy that George Lopez has become somewhat of our Latino poster boy? Granted, he came out of poor and rough means and I understand that, I really do. I also respect that he has been able to overcome his upbringing and succeed in this great country. I also come from a very poor family with a Puerto Rican father who finished eighth grade, but no more, and an orphaned mother from Kentucky. I understand poverty and I also understand how a family leaves it behind with dignity. The last two times I have listened to George Lopez he has been both vulgar and anti-white. It makes me wonder how much hatred he still harbors. Either that or he doesnt harbor hatred but is catering to an audience that does. I have never heard my father be vulgar in public, much less be anti-white. Never. Did you see Lopezs recent HBO special?

Last night I turned on TBS to check out his new show and the first thing I saw were two contestants trying to guess things about people on the street. One of the people on the street was a man and the question was about whether the man had a large or small penis. I changed the channel in disgust. I do not want to come off as a holier than thou because that is not my attitude at all. This is just me asking the question whether or not this is the Latino image we want to be portrayed to the entire country? Seriously, is this the picture we want of Latinos? Did I close my eyes and open them in a Latino world that I dont know? Are we a base, vulgar people? Is that what defines us?

It certainly doesnt represent what a lot of us are about and I, for one, wish Lpez would go back to being funny without being vulgar and base. I used to enjoy the George Lopez Show very much and it was my fathers favorite all-time show. I wish we had a few famous Latino comedians who actually could be funny without being vulgar or feel the need to put down white people so frequently. To me this is counter-productive as hate only produces more hate. Think Bill Cosby. By all accounts he is one of the funniest (maybe the funniest) comedians in history. He was clean. He also made you think about society and culture. He also did more with The Cosby Show to elevate African-Americans in the eyes of the world (and perhaps in their own eyes?) than any other comedian in history. He also opened the path for black comedians in mainstream society.

Are there any other Latino comedians out there who will stand up and be funny without the vulgarity or the constant put downs of other races? Yes, Caucasians are a race also. By the way, heres the business application. Be careful about your Latino spokespeople. Make sure they truly do represent your values and the mission of your organization. Remember that Latinos are not one big group of people who all hold the same values in life. Find spokespeople who truly represent what you and your organization are all about. If you dont, it wont be funny.
